During his PhD studies, he specialised in human nutrient and drug transport processes in the fields of physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology of nutrition. His scientific knowledge gained in this area is documented by a track record of scientific achievements. In January 2005, Foltz obtained his PhD degree at the Technical University of Munich, completing his PhD studies summa cum laude.
Right after having obtained his PhD, he started as Research Manager at the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute in the expertise group ‘Bioavailability & ADME (preclinical testing of a compound, addressing the properties Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion)’. In this role, he coordinates scientific studies ‘from bench to bedside’, i.e. in vitro and in vivo studies on various aspects of bioavailability and ADME of bioactive food ingredients. His key responsibilities consist of directing research strategies, ensuring the quality of the science, managing the laboratory team and holding external study partners accountable.
