Prof. Dr. Rolaf van Leeuwen
Prof. Dr. Rolaf van Leeuwen (1946) has studied biochemistry at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD degree in 1979. Currently, he is senior toxicologist Food Safety, Division of Nutrition and Consumer Safety of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). His main tasks as a senior toxicologist are to coordinate research and regulatory advices of the division and to function as a primary contact for the National Food and Commodities Authority (VWA). Before taking up this position at the RIVM, he worked as a manager of Chemical Safety at the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as a toxicologist at the RIVM. He has been involved in many WHO committees, amongst which the joint Food and Agriculture Organisation (of the United Nations)/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. He has recently been appointed professor of Integral Risk Assessment of Toxic Components in Food at the Wageningen University and Research Centre.
