About Us
Xtrack 2008

The Xtrack programme is a two-year honours programme for a small group of outstanding students from different master programmes within the Utrecht Graduate School of Life Sciences. It is an addition to the standard curriculum, and enables students to gain additional academic and organisational skills, while allowing them to come in contact with students from other master programmes.

The Xtrack programme spans a period of two years. In the first year, the Xtrack committee will organise a symposium on a ‘hot topic’ within the field of life sciences. Previous Xtrack committees have organised symposia with subjects ranging from Obesitas to Nanotechnology. The committee is responsible for every aspect of the symposium: its members will, for instance, decide on the topic, attract sponsors, find speakers, and promote their symposium. In this, they will be coached by a staff member of Studium Generale. In the second year of the Xtrack programme, each participant will write a proposal for a research study equivalent to a PhD-project.

This year, an Xtrack committee has been selected for the fifth time. The Xtrack 2008 committee consists of the following five students: Janneke Burggraaff (Drug Innovation), Xenia Deligianni (Biomedical Image Sciences), Stefanie de Poot (Biomolecular Sciences), Tessa Quax (Biomolecular Sciences), and Stephin Vervoort (Immunity and Infection). They will be coached by Studium Generale staff member Dr. Ir. Melanie Peters.

This year’s committee has decided to organise a symposium around the topic Functional Foods, and whether or not it is possible to boost your health using them. The symposium will be held on the 18th of September, as the first of a series of ABC-seminars. The symposium is open to all who are interested.
